Word for Word
Stephanie is thrilled to be directing All Aunt Hagar's Children by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edward P. Jones with Margo Hall assistant directing. The cast is extraordinary and includes actors Khary Moye, Velina Brown, Margo Hall, Edris Cooper-Anifowoshe, Kehinde Koyejo, Jia Taylor, Joel Mullennix, and Sheila Balter. The production team includes Nadine Mozon, Lynne Soffer, and Andrea Weber. The story, a neighborhood noir, takes place in 1953 in Washington, D.C. It centers around a young man, a Korean War veteran, who is asked by his mother and his aunts to figure out the unsolved murder of a childhood friend. The young man also is haunted by the memory of a mysterious woman who collapses in his arms on a street corner. He dreams of escaping his everyday world to look for gold in Alaska. Cultures intersect in surprising ways in this neighborhood. It is a profoundly American story, full of humor, pathos, and exquisite language.

All Aunt Hagar's Children, a Word for Word/Z Space production, runs November 19 though December 11 at Z Space/Theater Artaud.

Stephanie recently appeared in Word for Word's production of Colm Tóibín's story Silence and Emma Donoghue's story Night Vision. In Silence, Stephanie played Irish writer, translator, poet, and playwright Lady Gregory, who was one of the founders and directors of the Abbey Theater in Dublin. Night Vision is the story of the childhood of the Irish poet, Frances Browne; Stephanie played her sister, Fanny.
